About ACT
Our mission
Arlington Children's Theatre uses theatre as a vehicle for youth development; empowering young people to grow as artists, leaders, collaborators, and engaged community members.
Through mentorship, collaboration, and performance, ACT creates a supportive space where youth can express themselves, develop creatively, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. ACT envisions inclusive communities where young people feel empowered to share their stories, collaborate across differences, and grow through the creative and educational power of theatre.
Our values
Youth-Centered
Young people are at the heart of every decision we make. We prioritize their growth, well-being, and development both on and off the stage.
Belonging
We cultivate welcoming and inclusive environments where every individual feels seen, valued, respected, and empowered to contribute.
Excellence
We pursue high standards in our artistic work, educational programming, and organizational practices. We believe young people rise to high expectations when provided with meaningful support.
Empathy
We foster compassion, perspective-taking, and meaningful relationships. We strive to create a community where individuals support, respect, and learn from one another.
Leadership
We believe young people are capable of extraordinary leadership. We provide authentic opportunities for responsibility, service, collaboration, and positive impact.
Our history
For more than 35 years, Arlington Children’s Theatre has brought young people together to create, perform, and grow through live theater. ACT provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where children build confidence, creativity, collaboration, and lifelong friendships both on and off the stage.
Each season, ACT produces a diverse lineup of plays and musicals alongside workshops, vacation programs, and a fully enrolled summer day camp. Our programs emphasize the educational process as much as the performance itself, encouraging every participant to take risks, develop new skills, and discover their unique voice.
Founded in 1991 as a small community theater program, ACT has grown into a vibrant artistic home for hundreds of children and families each year. What began as a single annual production now includes 5–6 productions a season and year-round opportunities for young performers to learn, create, and shine — all made possible by a dedicated community of teaching artists, volunteers, and families.
